![]() We put some five-spoke Weld wheels on it and I drove it to work. “I wanted a fun car to drive every day, so I put a junkyard 350 and a T-5 five-speed in it, and my buddy with the body shop helped me fix it and paint it and make it look nice. “They’d eaten up all of the wiring, I found all kinds of secrets up in the dash inside the gauges, but it was still a California car, so it was in good shape otherwise,” he says. The shoebox was in stock form when he bought it - an original SS car, yellow with a black interior, and it had been sitting long enough that it was filled with field-mites. I didn’t know what I would get if I sold it, so I decided to keep it.” I think it’s a classic that will never get old. “I had a chance to sell out at one point, and probably triple my money, but after thinking about it, I loved the body style. Like the young kid that owned it previously, Kolby entertained letting it go to a new home during these 31 years, but ultimately couldn’t envision himself without it. Prior to this, it had a naturally-aspirated 632 cubic-inch big-block for power, with a manually-shifted Lenco five-speed, which was good enough for low eights in the quarter. Originally intended to be a daily-driven work-commute vehicle, it navigated the usual path from humble to hardcore, going through a handful of transformations. So this time around, everything is first-class so there are no weak links. I’m not a big budget guy, and I’ve always had to compromise with what I was doing and use used parts, so there was always a weak link. So the kid that owned it sold the engine and transmission out of it so his brother couldn’t take it over, and I later ended up buying it from the high school kid,” Kolby explains. A high school kid owned it, had lost his license, and it was sitting for a while, and then one of his brothers convinced the dad that it shouldn’t sit there and the brother should be driving it. He actually found the car for me - I was looking for a Chevy II. I kept in touch with him, and through my work, I ended up getting a job up that way. “I had a buddy that moved to California - Northern California - at the same time I did, and started a body shop. It was then in 1990 that he acquired the Chevy II. Among his rides was a ‘40 Willys that he says, “did nothing but wheelstands for a year.” He moved to California in 1969 and with a partner, put together a C/Modified Production car. He ran B and C/Gas for a number of years, switching back and forth between the two. “It wasn’t very fast,” he says, “but you learn…you’re always learning.” Kolby has been racing on and off ever since, occasionally dabbling in other arenas of the car hobby, but always returning to the sport of drag racing. Admitting he was a bit naive, he stuck a junk-yard 401 cubic-inch Buick engine in a ’51 Chevy and went racing. He was so impressed by it all that he decided he was going to race himself. Originally from Wisconsin, Kolby attended drag races at Union Grove and witnessed some of the early gassers and their high-RPM engines. I’ve been on and off drag racing, I’ve tried street-rodding, I just enjoy cars,” Kolby says. “I’ve been interested in cars since I was 13, 14…I think I got my first car when I was 15 and I’ve had a lot of cars ever since. ![]() Never did he intend nor think it would become the track-warrior that it is today - or that he could even afford to have such a car - but his unparalleled passion for the sport made it a reality. TL DR: Muggo is an effective self-warming travel tumbler with an easy-to-use interface and accurate temperature settings from 95 to 150 degrees. Once it cooled down to the set temperature, it stayed there for over an hour. ![]() In my testing, Muggo performed fairly similarly to the Ember mug. The charging pad can keep the mug charged while you’re sitting at your desk, and also charge up the battery for when it’s time to go. Instead of sitting on a charging saucer, Muggo has a removable battery that magnetically attaches to a charging pad. (The tumbler also displays the current temperature at all times.) The spring-loaded lid pops up and down with a single press, so it’s easy to drink from on the go, too. Time in temperature range: 1 hour, 15 minutesĪlthough it doesn’t have an app like Ember, the Muggo tumbler is very easy to control, as you can adjust the temperature in five-degree intervals from 95 to 150 degrees by pressing right on the LED display on the tumbler itself. Although I did not test it, Ember also makes a travel tumbler with similar features, if that’s more appealing to you. The only downside is there’s no USB charger. ![]() TL DR: Ember is a sleek, app-controlled mug that will keep your beverage at a set temperature anywhere from 120 to 145 degrees and it’s mostly accurate based on my testing. My slightly more scientific testing proved it be even more effective: It stayed within seven degrees of the set temperature for 95 minutes. The saucer charger has to be plugged into an actual outlet which isn’t always the most convenient.ĭuring casual use I set the Ember mug to 140 degrees (which, thanks to all these temperature measuring gadgets, I recently discovered is my preferred tea temperature) and found that it stayed around there until I finished my tea around an hour later. The only not-so-modern thing about Ember is that there’s no USB charging cord. You’ll also get notifications once the mug has reached your desired temperature and when it needs to be charged. That may sound gimmicky but it is actually pretty useful: On the app, you can set your desired temperature (anywhere from 120 to 145 degrees in single-degree intervals, the most specific control of any mug) and view the current temperature of your drink. It’s the only warming mug I tested that uses an app, connected via Bluetooth. In all-white with a matching saucer charger (it’s also available in black and metallic copper), the Ember mug is the most sleek and streamlined of the bunch. Time in temperature range: 1 hour, 35 minutes By comparison, a regular mug only stayed in that exact range for around five minutes I’ve also noted how long each mug held a temperature from 125 to 135 degrees. All of the mugs but the Ember have a lid, so I tested them without the lids on to control for that. The product description explains it should stay at around 140 degrees “for hours.” To compare them all accurately, I set the Ember and Muggo to 130 degrees. The Burnout also doesn’t allow for temperature control, but that’s not a surprise, because it’s not electric. Two of the mugs I tested, Ember and Muggo, allow for precise temperature control, while the OHOM Kopi is designed to stay at 130-degrees. To add in a “control” factor, I also tested a regular ceramic mug as well as a stainless-steel Yeti tumbler. Then, after a few days of trying each, I moved to a slightly more scientific testing method, pouring boiling water into each mug and then checking the temperature with a meat thermometer at five-minute intervals for two hours. At this point, I am ready to drink it, not wait even longer.Īt first, I used them casually for my daily tea, just to get a sense of how they worked and how well they maintained their temperatures. While I could go through the process of boiling more water, that would also involve waiting for it - and waiting for it to cool back down. By then, my once-steaming mug is usually closer to lukewarm. Although the first step in my work-from-home morning routine is pouring myself a cup of tea, I don’t often get around to drinking that tea until I’ve made breakfast, checked emails, responded to any urgent emails, and gotten distracted chatting with co-workers on Slack. ![]() Judy Hopps The Walt Disney Company Character Finnick, black cat cosplay 2016 transparent background PNG clipart size: 485x719px filesize: 401.6KB Po Tigress Giant panda Kung Fu Panda Film, Kung-fu panda transparent background PNG clipart size: 678x958px filesize: 674.11KB.Judy Hopps Nick Wilde Zao Fox Village, Fox rabbit transparent background PNG clipart size: 891x869px filesize: 388.02KB Judy Hopps Domestic rabbit The Walt Disney Company Drawing Animated film, Zootopia transparent background PNG clipart size: 512x512px filesize: 48.98KB ![]()

However, sometimes it can cause more harm than good.Īpple isn’t perfect, and some software updates can bring issues on their own, as we saw a few months ago with a series of iOS 16.5.1 Rapid Security Releases (RSRs). On paper, having Rapid Security Responses installed automatically seems like a great idea. I dislike batteries because they're basically a waste IMO. Everyone has their own style and I might try the "Learn to Rely on your Generators" route just to see how it effects my own Early Game gameplay style. And, if you've built your own gameplay style around it, that's cool too. I do agree that's only an Early Game concern, though. Wood is needed for building, time spent chopping wood isn't time spent building or growing plants, etc. That's why, IMO, many players might see that including a Wood Fueled Generator in there, the first that's available IIRC, might be seen as being something that will take too much valuable labor to support. So, a player is generally trying to min/max productivity and efficiency early in the game. Building jobs fail, they take forever to do JobXX, there aren't any cobblestone paths to speed up necessary travel, Planting/Cuttting takes forever, etc. In the very early stages of gameplay, though, pawns are involved in doing all sorts of things that take time and their skills are usually low in some critically needed skill. (Especially the latter if I get an Infinite Chemfuel generator during play.) Sometimes I have both a wood and a chemfuel generator. I incorporate at least one fueled Generator somewhere in my grid and keep it fueled throughout gameplay. They're just too darn useful to fully ignore, IMO. I can easily see why you'd disagree if you like to use Generators from the start.īut. though I will agree that is probably much more common than the way I do it. Originally posted by desrtfox071.I almost never use batteries, so I disagree with the "Batteries should be the first Tech the player rushes" statement. ![]() Obviously, YMMV, but that's my way of doing things. I just go straight from generators to wither water power or geothermal or both. I can instead be using those components for much more important things, like actually generating enough power, or a million other things. I have much better things to do with components than spend them on devices that act only as a buffer. So, yeah you have to refuel, but it isn't really that big of a deal unless you have a ton of them spread apart. While it is true that generators need to be filled, a typical fully fueled Wood generator lasts about 3.5 days on a single fueling, and the ChemFuel generator lasts almost 7 days. I almost never use batteries, so I disagree with the "Batteries should be the first Tech the player rushes" statement. Early in the game that may be a case of "one too many" things for pawns to have to do for some players. I do use them, but use them for supplemental power until I can get a good Geothermal network going.Īdded note: The downside of fueled Generators, as has been pointed out in some other threads, is that they require "Fuel" and require the pawns to actively supply that fuel. I probably should experiment with that a bit more. I don't usually go the "Generator" route at first. "Typically" meaning an experienced players initial starting activities. Typically, while occupied with the other initial gameplay stuffs, the player isn't going to be able to build many Solar Panels/Wind Generators before they can build/research Batteries. ![]() I'd agree, but Batteries should be the first Tech the player rushes.
